MANILA, Philippines — A woman died while a motorcycle rider was injured after they were hit by a sport utility vehicle (SUV) with the logo of the House of Representatives in Mandaluyong yesterday.

Col. Reynan Patam, Mandaluyong police chief, said investigators are verifying if the vehicle is connected with the House of Representatives.

“Our details gathering is still ongoing,” Patam said in a message on Viber.

The hit-and-run incident occurred along Ortigas Avenue in Barangay Wack-Wack at around 4 a.m.

The fatality, identified only as Sheila, was a back rider of the motorcycle hit by the speeding SUV. She died on the spot.

Emergency responders rushed the motorcycle driver to a hospital for treatment.

Initial investigation showed that the SUV driver, instead of stopping, sped away from the scene and left his victims on the ground.

Police officers from San Juan arrested the suspect in a brief chase and turned him over to the Mandaluyong police for investigation.

Patam did not identify the suspect but said that he is detained on charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.
