MANILA, Philippines — Over one million patients have benefited from the Department of Health’s zero-balance billing program, according to DOH.

“Four months after the President’s State of the Nation Address last July, total of 1,078,164 patients have been given assistance through the zero-balance billing program being implemented in DOH hospitals,” the agency said.

Under the program, no payment is required from the patient for hospital services including the medical procedure, doctor’s professional fee and medications.

The program is part of the Universal Health Care Act of 2019, which ensures that all Filipinos have equitable access to quality and affordable health care services.

Meanwhile, the DOH’s PuroKalusugan program has now covered 8,102 barangays or up to 4,138,337 people in remote communities.

The program aims to provide door-to-door primary care services such as vaccination and check-up and distribute maintenance medicines.
