Grade 6 pupil Angelo died after a tree felled by strong winds crushed their semi-permanent shanty where he and his preschool brother were staying.

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — A 12-year-old boy died after a tree brought down by strong winds hit a shanty in Marilog District, Davao City on Saturday, June 13.

The victim, whom barangay officials and policemen who responded to the incident identified only as Angelo, was crushed by the roof of the shanty in Purok Kawayan in Barangay Tamugan that got flattened by the large tree that fell on top of it.

Radio reports in Cotabato City on Sunday quoted barangay officials in Tamugan and officials of a unit of the Davao City Police Office in Marilog District as saying that the 12-year-old Angelo immediately succumbed to injuries caused by what was for them a peculiar accident.

His one-year-old brother luckily survived the incident with only superficial wounds and contusions in different parts of his body

Officials of the Tamugan barangay government and emergency responders immediately brought the victim to a mortuary for embalming as requested by his family.

Barangay officials and the local government unit of Davao City, the regional capital of Region 11, had reportedly assured to help the family of the elementary pupil Angelo facilitate his burial.
