COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Thirteen minors and an adult were hospitalized after eating the fruit of a tuba-tuba plant in Koronadal, South Cotabato on Monday.
The adult victim was reportedly the first to complain of abdominal pains and was rushed to the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital in Koronadal, according to Rolly Aquino, chief of the South Cotabato disaster risk reduction and management office.
Aquino said the minors were taken to the same hospital after complaining of abdominal pains and vomiting.
“They were not aware that the fruit of the tuba-tuba is poisonous. The leaves have medicinal value, but the fruit is not edible,” Aquino said.
