MANILA, Philippines — Up to 141,724 drivers of passenger jeepneys and UV Express can avail themselves of the P10 per liter fuel subsidy, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board said on Monday.

LTFRB Chairman Vigor Mendoza II said the figure covers all regions and is based on the database of qualified beneficiaries.

Mendoza said 12,688 beneficiaries have registered so far for the program.

The fuel discount subsidy was initially launched in selected gasoline stations in Metro Manila, in coordination with the Department of Energy (DOE).

From 50 participating gas stations in the metropolis, the number has increased to 4,299 nationwide.

The national government has disbursed over P13.3 million since the initiative started.

When the Middle East conflict erupted in April, President Marcos ordered the DOE, LTFRB and the Department of Transportation to provide assistance to public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers.

“This is proof that the government is still helping the transport sector despite the improvement of the prices of petroleum products,” Mendoza said.

The program will initially cover passenger jeepneys and UV Express and will expand to other PUVs.

“This will not only benefit PUV drivers and operators, but the commuters as well,” Mendoza said.

The P10 fuel discount is on top of the P5,000 subsidy for PUV drivers and operators.

Based on the guidelines, participating gas stations nationwide will be connected to the database of the national government through a mobile app listing the qualified beneficiaries.

Only PUVs with existing and valid franchises will be included in the database for a 150-liter ceiling every week for each PUV units.
