MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos has accepted the courtesy resignations of 17 officials of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) as he reappointed Jay Ruiz as PCO head and Henry Rhoel Aguda as secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Malacañang announced yesterday.
Marcos has vowed to be “very, very strict” in assessing the performance of government officials, saying those who failed to deliver should be removed from their posts.
Ruiz and Aguda were reappointed after their ad interim appointments were bypassed by the Commission on Appointments last week due to lack of material time. The 19th Congress adjourned its session on June 11.
In a statement yesterday, Ruiz, a former television reporter, thanked Marcos for his “continued trust and confidence” in him to lead the PCO, the lead communications arm of the government.
“This fresh mandate is both an honor and a responsibility that strengthens my resolve to serve with greater dedication, especially at a time when effective communication is central to the success of the administration’s programs,” Ruiz said.
Meanwhile, Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro confirmed the resignation of PCO Senior Undersecretary Analisa Puod.
Puod previously headed the agency’s Strategic Communications Cluster and served as supervising officer for Interagency Communications Operations.
Last month, the President ordered Cabinet members to submit their courtesy resignations in line with a performance review that also covers officials with lower ranks, as well as heads of agencies and state-run firms.
