MANILA, Philippines — Up to 174 people were rounded up after police raided an illegal online cockfighting operation in Tondo, Manila on Tuesday night.
Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group found the suspects playing e-sabong inside a coliseum along Vitas street, CIDG National Capital Region chief Col. John Guiagui said.
Police said they received reports that online sabong was being held at the coliseum since last year, averaging around 500 fights daily, way above the 300 cockfights operated per day by fugitive gambling tycoon Charlie Ang.
The CIDG said the online sabong had been operating around the clock.
“We will go all out. We will find out who are running online sabong operations,” Guiagui said.
Of those arrested, 136 were bettors.
