MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression "Wilma" continued to inch closer to Eastern Samar and Northern Samar on Saturday, December 6, prompting state weather bureau PAGASA to raise Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over several provinces across Luzon and Visayas.
As of 10 a.m., the center of Wilma was spotted over the coastal waters of Sulat, Eastern Samar, with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center, gusts of up to 55 kph and a central pressure of 1004 hPa.
The tropical depression is moving westward slowly, with strong winds extending up to 200 km from its center.

Areas under Signal No. 1 may experience possible minimal to minor impacts from strong winds, ranging from 39 kph to 61 kph.
The state weather bureau said that localized heavy rains and strong winds may still occur outside the landfall point and forecast cone.

PAGASA has hoisted a gale warning across several localities and warned coastal residents of high waves in the following areas:
- Up to 5.5 meters: The northern and eastern seaboards of Catanduanes; the eastern seaboards of Albay and Sorsogon; the northern seaboard of Northern Samar
- Up to 5 meters: The seaboards of mainland Cagayan, Isabela, and Aurora; the northern and eastern seaboards of Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur; the remaining seaboard of Northern Samar
- Up to 4.5 meters: The eastern seaboards of Batanes, Babuyan Islands and Eastern Samar
- Up to 4 meters: The remaining seaboards of Batanes and Babuyan Islands; the seaboard of Ilocos Norte
- Up to 3.5 meters: The seaboards of Surigao del Sur and Kalayaan Islands
- Up to 3 meters: The remaining seaboards of Ilocos Region; the eastern seaboard of Davao Oriental
- Up to 2.5 meters: The western seaboards of Zambales, Bataan, Batangas, and Palawan; the seaboards of Cuyo Islands; the western seaboards of Antique and Negros Occidental; the southern seaboards of Oriental Mindoro, Negros Oriental, and Davao Occidental; the seaboards of Occidental Mindoro, Romblon, and Aklan.
- Up to 2 meters: The remaining seaboards of Palawan, Quezon, and Camarines Sur; the seaboard of Marinduque; the northwestern seaboard of Masbate including Burias Islands; the remaining seaboard of Oriental Mindoro; the northern seaboard of Zamboanga del Norte.
Track, intensity outlook
Wilma is expected to make its initial landfall over Eastern Samar or Northern Samar on Saturday, before traversing the Visayas until Sunday, December 7.
It may then enter the Sulu Sea and pass over northern Palawan by Monday morning, December 8.
The system is likely to remain a tropical depression but may weaken into a remnant low due to dry intrusion from the northeast monsoon.
