LEGAZPI CITY — The Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5) has arrested 2,394 individuals during the first quarter of the year.

The suspects were arrested over illegal drugs and loose firearms possession, illegal gambling, illegal fishing, illegal logging, criminal gang activities, and insurgency.

In a report released on Friday, PRO-5 director BGen. Andre Dizon said the accomplishments were the fruits of strengthened police visibility through the conduct of regular bike and motorcycle patrols in various areas in the region.

"This proactive approach has played a crucial role in deterring criminal activities and fostering stronger police-community relations," he said.

A total of 353 anti-drug operations were conducted since January, resulting in the confiscation of P33.9 million worth of narcotics and the arrest of 350 individuals. The drugs seized included 99.96 grams of marijuana and 4,984.98 grams of shabu.

"This relentless war against illegal drugs is vital in protecting the youth and safeguarding the future of communities," he said.

Dizon added that in addressing the issue of loose firearms, a total of 514 operations were conducted in the past three months, leading to the arrest of 76 individuals.

"A total of 303 assorted firearms were confiscated, surrendered, or recovered, while an additional 351 firearms were voluntarily turned in for safekeeping. Legal action was taken against 50 violators," he said.

In terms of Illegal gambling, 159 operations were conducted, 431 individuals were arrested, and P176,020 in bet money were confiscated.

For illegal fishing, 89 operations were carried out, resulting in the arrest of 192 individuals.

Authorities seized fish and fishing paraphernalia valued at P2.29 million.

"This campaign aims to protect marine resources and support the livelihood of legitimate fisherfolk," he said.

For illegal logging, 99 individuals were arrested and an estimated P1.2 million worth of lumber and flitches were confiscated inside 90 operations.

In neutralizing criminal gangs, a total of nine operations were launched, resulting in the arrest of four gang members, the neutralization of an individual, and the voluntary surrender of four others.

Dizon said that for insurgency, 24 individuals were arrested, 50 former insurgents voluntarily surrendered, and one suspect was killed during operations.

Police also recovered 24 firearms and 30 explosive devices.

The PNP Bicol arrested a total of 1,218 individuals with standing warrants, including a fugitive at the national level, 53 at the regional level, 55 at the provincial level, 26 at the city level, 182 at the municipal and station levels, and 901 other wanted individuals.

Dizon assured the public that the unit will not waver in its campaign against criminal elements, emphasizing that law enforcement operations will continue without letup.

He also urged the community to remain vigilant and cooperative in supporting the police's initiatives, as public participation is vital in maintaining a safe and secure environment.

"PNP Bicol remains steadfast in our mission to rid the region of criminal elements and ensure lasting peace and order. Our fight is far from over, and we will continue to intensify our efforts, never allowing up a single moment of complacency. But this battle cannot be won by law enforcement alone — we need the full support of the community. I call on every citizen to stay vigilant, to speak up, and to stand with us. Together, we can build a safer, more secure future for our families and our communities," he said.
