COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Two died while 10 others were badly injured when the pick-up type multicab they were riding veered from the highway and plunged into a ravine in Sitio Mudon in Barangay Upper Sepaka in Surallah, South Cotabato on Saturday, August 15.

Leonardo Ballon, chief of the Surallah Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and barangay officials told reporters on Sunday that the accident left the driver of the multicab, Joey Areglado, and one of his passengers, Marilyn Antonio, dead.

Ballon and investigators from the Surallah Municipal Police Station had confirmed to reporters that 10 passengers of the multicab who sustained wounds, fractures and contusions in different parts of their bodies were rushed to different hospitals for treatment.

All of the victims, who belong to the Seventh-Day Adventist community in Surallah, were on their way home, from an outreach mission in Barangay Upper Sepaka, when Areglado lost control of the multicab they were riding due to mechanical trouble, causing the accident.

Witnesses had told barangay officials and police investigators that the multicab wiggled first before it swerved towards the side of the highway, rolled over repeatedly before it landed some 20 meters below.
