CEBU CITY — A bomb joke made aboard a Cebu Pacific flight disrupted operations at the Bohol-Panglao International Airport on Saturday after two passengers were overheard making the bomb-related remark as their flight was landing.
Cebu Pacific flight 5J617 arrived at the airport at 11:20 a.m. when a flight attendant reportedly heard the two individuals making a joke regarding a bomb.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said the incident prompted immediate security measures, with the two passengers placed under police custody.
"A flight attendant overheard the remark made by two passengers, who were subsequently placed under police custody," read part of the CAAP report.
The CAAP also said its security and intelligence personnel responded after being alerted by airport authorities.

The aircraft's pilot requested the clearance of the cabin and baggage for a full security inspection. By 12:43 p.m., authorities declared the aircraft free of any explosive threat.
All passengers and crew were confirmed safe, and normal flight operations resumed shortly after.
CAAP reiterated its warning to the public that making bomb jokes is a serious offense under Presidential Decree 1727.
Offenders may face imprisonment of up to five years or a fine of up to P40,000.
"Passengers are urged to exercise caution and responsibility in their statements to uphold the safety and security of all travelers," CAAP added.
