“The department extends its congratulations to former 4Ps monitored children Chariz Ann Lucero and Clyde Zeph Payusan for demonstrating that effective government interventions, combined with hard work and dedication, can help achieve our mission of breaking the intergenerational cycle of poverty,” DSWD spokesperson Irene Dumlao said in a statement.

MANILA, Philippines — Proving that poverty is not a hindrance to education, two former student-beneficiaries of the government’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or 4Ps landed in the 7th and 9th spots in this year’s Licensure Examination for Teachers, the Department of Social Welfare and Development announced.
Lucero and Payusan emerged as the 7th and 9th top placers in the LET for secondary and elementary levels, respectively.
Passing the LET is a requirement for people to become licensed professional teachers in the country.
“It is like just a dream. I didn’t expect that I would be included in the list of topnotchers. I am so blessed. This is a big opportunity to change my life and our family,” said Lucero, a native of San Vicente town in Ilocos Sur.
Payusan, a native of Dalaguete town in Cebu, said that “even the most difficult circumstances could lead to remarkable achievements” when coupled with perseverance and the right support.
“The 4Ps goes beyond financial aid. It helps lessen the educational and economic struggles of families like ours. Rather than allowing these hardships to hold me back, they became the driving force that strengthened my determination, fueled my discipline and inspired me to excel,” Payusan shared on the DSWD-Central Visayas social media page.
According to Dumlao, the performance of the two former 4Ps monitored children “serve as proof of the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and human capital development.”
