MANILA, Philippines — Two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) were killed by their employer during a hostage incident in Beirut, Lebanon, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said yesterday.
“The victims, both long-time household service workers in the residence, were fatally shot on April 15,” the DMW said.
Police arrested the employer and filing of charges is underway, the agency noted.
DMW Undersecretaries Bernard Olalia and Felicitas Bay will visit the victims’ families to convey condolences and assure them of full government support.
Meanwhile, 104 Filipinos affected by the Middle East war returned to the Philippines on April 18.
The seventh repatriation flight in Abu Dhabi carried 82 OFWs, 21 visiting dependents and a stranded tourist.
