MANILA, Philippines — Two cadets of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) have graduated from the Japan National Defense Academy (JNDA).
Cadets First Class Jhoshua Garcia, 25, and Solomon Mangetag, 26, obtained their Bachelor of Arts in Humanities at the JNDA on March 14.
Garcia will be joining the Philippine Air Force while Solomon will join the Philippine Navy. The two members of the PMA’s Class of 2024 were sent to Japan under the foreign pre-commissioning training institution program.
Lt. Cmdr. Jesse Nestor Saludo, PMA public affairs chief, said that before joining the PMA, Garcia studied Civil Engineering at the University of Baguio.
On May 2020, Garcia was sent to study at the JNDA where he received the English Proficiency Award, which is granted to cadets who scored 900 and above in the Test of English for International Communication or TOEIC examination.
Meanwhile, Mangetag studied Mechanical Engineering as well as Criminology at the Saint Louis University and Ifugao State University before joining the PMA.
He was sent to the JNDA in 2021, where he also received the English Proficiency Award. He was conferred the Foreign Cadet Special Award for excelling in academics, conduct and public service.
Saludo said the achievements of Garcia and Mangetag are proof that PMA cadets can meet the academic and military standards of foreign service academies.
