MANILA, Philippines — Two earthquakes struck Sarangani on Friday night, with intensities felt in several areas in Mindanao, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Phivolcs said the first quake, a magnitude 6.8, occurred at 10:58 p.m. with its epicenter located 40 kilometers east of Balut Island.
The temblor, which was tectonic in origin, was felt at Intensity 2 in Malungon and Kiamba in Sarangani, Koronadal and Tupi in South Cotabato and Palimbang in Sultan Kudarat.
Intensity 1 was felt in General Santos City, Magsaysay in Davao del Sur, Sta. Maria in Davao Occidental, Nabunturan in Davao de Oro, and Maitum and Malapatan in Sarangani as well as in Banga, Sto. Niño, Surallah, Tampakan and T’boli in South Cotabato.
A few minutes later, a magnitude 5.2 quake occurred at 11:15 p.m. with its epicenter located some 350 kilometers south of Balut Island.
Phivolcs said the temblors were not expected to cause damage to property or generate aftershocks.
