COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Two traffickers, peddling shabu near school campuses, were entrapped on Monday night, July 13, in Barangay Salimbao in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao del Norte in an operation assisted by their close relatives and vigilant Moro leaders in the area.
The suspects, Bairuth Paches, 31, and her 28-year-old male accomplice, Aiman Usop, are now locked in separate detention cells in the Sultan Kudarat Municipal Police Station, awaiting prosecution for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Municipal and barangay officials separately told reporters on Tuesday that Paches and Usop were detained by policemen, led by Lt. Col. Basher Alindo, acting Sultan Kudarat municipal police chief, after selling to them P24,420 worth of shabu during a tradeoff in Sitio Juliano in Barangay Salimbao, observed from a distance by their relatives who helped plot the operation.
Captain Steffie Salanguit, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, and Local executives had separately told reporters that it was the relatives of Paches and Usop and Muslim religious leaders in their barangay who reported their peddling of shabu in Sultan Kudarat and nearby towns, enabling Alindo and his subordinates to promptly plot the operation that led to their arrest.
Paches tried to run away when he sensed he and Usop had sold their illegal merchandise to police anti-narcotics operatives, but was cornered and immediately cuffed after she slipped and stumbled on the ground while trying to run away.
Paches, who was injured in the incident, was immediately brought by policemen to the nearby Cotabato General Sanitarium Hospital for treatment before they detained her at the Sultan Kudarat police station.
