BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Two boys, aged 11 and 12, were the first to be recorded as injured by firecrackers here this year.
Based on reports from the Baguio City Health Services, the 11-year-old boy was injured after the illegal firecracker “5 Star” he lighted exploded in his right hand before he could toss it away.
The incident happened on Dec. 21 in Purok 5, Lower Dagsian.
Doctors said the boy suffered a first-degree burn in his thumb and damage to his fingernails. No amputation was needed.
The following day, a 12-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital for treatment of injuries in his left hand and forearm after a firecracker exploded near him in Barangay Irisan.
In Rizal town in Kalinga, a 37-year-old man was recorded as the first case of fireworks-related injury in the province.
