CEBU CITY — A fire ripped through Sitio Mabapo in Barangay Mambaling on Saturday morning, killing three siblings and destroying 20 homes.

The blaze started at 8:51 a.m. inside a residential structure owned by Junrel Abella and occu-pied by Ynica Marie Siaboc, who lived there with her partner and their three children.

The children — 6-year-old Sachzna Lexy, 4-year-old Razan Kyle Siaboc and 3-year-old Athena Lexy Siaboc perished in the fire before rescuers could reach them.

Based on the initial investigation, the victims' mother tried to rescue her children but the blaze had already engulfed their house, making it difficult for her to save them.

Firefighters from the Cebu City Fire Station responded within two minutes and raised the first alarm at 8:53 a.m. They brought the fire under control by 9:40 a.m. and declared it out at 11:01 a.m.

The blaze completely burned down 20 houses and partially damaged five others.

Fire officials estimated the damage to property at around P750,000.

Fire officials also said that Adones Avergedo, 41, suffered a concussion on the right side of his torso and was brought to the hospital.

Supt. Reynaldo Da Enoc led the firefighting operations, while FO2 James Parinasan launched an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
