MANILA, Philippines — Four people died in separate vehicular accidents in Quezon province on Wednesday.

In Tiaong, a rider and his passenger died after their motorcycle collided with a sport utility vehicle (SUV) in Barangay Poblacion III at 7:10 a.m.

The victims, identified only as VJ and Girlie, were traveling along the southbound lane of Maharlika Highway when they figured in the accident.

Another motorcycle rider behind them suffered injuries.

Emergency responders brought the victims to a nearby clinic where they were declared dead on arrival.

The SUV driver, identified only as Katherine, was brought to the police station for questioning.

Police said Katherine and the victims’ relatives agreed to settle the matter amicably.

In Catanauan, two people died when their motorcycle was hit by a van in Barangay Pacabit.

The victims, identified only as Satorneno and Ana, were traveling along a diversion road when they were sideswiped by the van at around 7:40 a.m.

The driver of the van reportedly tried to overtake the motorcycle.

The victims were declared dead on arrival in a hospital due to severe head and body injuries.

The van driver was detained by the municipal police as charges were readied against him.

Meanwhile, two people were killed while eight others were injured when a pick-up truck crashed into a tree in Zamboanga City on Thursday.

Satra Alih, 32, and Bagli Alih, 13, died at the scene of the incident in Barangay Lapaz.

Reports said the truck was traveling down a winding road when it figured in the accident at past 4 p.m.

The driver said the truck developed engine trouble, causing him to lose control of the wheel.

On the same day, a police officer was killed in a motorcycle accident in Hagonoy, Bulacan.

Reniel Delamines, a member of the Malolos police, was on his way to work when his motorcycle collided with another motorbike in Barangay Iba at past noon.

Delamines was declared dead on arrival at the Bulacan Medical Center due to head and body injuries.

The driver of the other motorcycle was taken to the police station for questioning. – Ramon Efren Lazaro
