ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Four crewmembers were injured in a fire that destroyed two motorized boats at a wharf in this city on Thursday night.

A Malaysian-styled boat, 4 Brothers, was preparing to depart Barangay Hondo for Basilan when it caught fire at around 7:35 p.m., according to the Bureau of Fire Protection.

The BFP said the fire quickly spread to a nearby boat, JH Express, which was reportedly carrying 340 gallons of gasoline.

Responding firefighters and residents tried to prevent the vessels from drifting toward a row of houses on stilts as the fire reached second alarm.

Three crewmembers were injured after they tried to put out the fire, while another suffered a fracture in the leg when he jumped overboard to escape the blaze.
