TACLOBAN, Philippines — Four people were killed when a passenger van rearended a 10-wheeler truck in Basey, Samar yesterday morning.
The victims died at the scene of the accident, which occurred at around 7 a.m. in Barangay San Fernando.
Among the fatalities, whose identities were not immediately known, was the van driver.
Some of the passengers suffered injuries. They were brought to the Basey District Hospital for treatment.
Investigation showed the van was headed to Tacloban when it crashed into the rear of the truck, which was parked along the roadside in Sitio Sagpuron.
The impact caused severe damage to the van, which was carrying 10 people including the driver.
Police said that members of a local rescue team had difficulty retrieving the victims who were trapped inside the wreckage of the van.
