THE Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Saturday reported that a 5.2-magnitude earthquake jolted several cities in Northern Luzon, including Vigan and Baguio City.

In a bulletin posted on its website and social media platforms, the quake, earlier registered at magnitude 5.4, was first detected at 10:36 a.m. and its epicenter 31 kilometers (km) northwest of Luna, La Union, with the quake tectonic in origin.

According to the Phivolcs' 11:35 a.m. bulletin, Intensity 4 was felt in the towns of Luna, Bangar, San Juan, Bacnotan and San Fernando City in La Union, Baguio City and the City of Vigan in Ilocos Sur.

Intensity 3 was felt in Bauang, La Union; San Nicolas, Pinili and the City of Batac in Ilocos Norte; the towns of Itogon, Kabayan, Mankayan, Sablan, Tuba and Kapangan; and Alaminos and Dagupan City in Pangasinan.

Intensity 2 was felt in Kiangan, Ifugao and Kibungan, Benguet.

While aftershocks are expected following the quake, damage is not expected following the tremor, according to Phivolcs.

According to Phivolcs reports, the earthquake pummeled Luna town in La Union with a 10-km depth.

The quake was also felt in the City of Candon in Ilocos Sur with an Intensity 4 record.

Intensity 3 was registered in Sinait, Ilocos Sur, and Intensity 2 in Bangued, Abra; Tagudin, Ilocos Sur; San Fernando and Aringay, La Union; and Bani, Infanta and Bolinao, all in Pangasinan.

"The public is reminded to stay calm and alert at the same time," the Phivolcs said in a statement.

"When shaking is felt, do the duck-cover-hold and stay away from objects that may easily fall or break," the state agency added.
