MANILA, Philippines — Five renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of 128.9 megawatts (MW) are now operational, the Department of Energy (DOE) said, calling them "early progress" in its push to expand the country’s green energy supply.
The DOE said the newly operational facilities, which are now active as of April 17, are:
- 20.6 MW Hermosa Solar Power Project (Solana Solar Alpha Inc.)
- 17.5 MW Taft Solar Power Project (Taft Solar Energy Corp.)
- 8 MW Biomass Cogeneration Plant Expansion (Central Azucarera de San Antonio)
- 52.8 MW Cordon Solar Power Project (Greenergy For Global Inc.)
- 30 MW Arayat 3A Solar Power Project (Citicore Solar Pampanga 1 Inc.)
These projects form part of 25 RE and energy storage projects with a total capacity of about 1,471 MW targeted for full operation by end-April 2026.
The remaining 20 projects have entered final stages and are also targeted for completion within April 2026.
To ensure timely rollout, the DOE is coordinating with the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) and the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines on transmission, interconnection, inspection, registration and metering requirements.
“We commend the developers and all concerned agencies for moving these projects forward with urgency. Every renewable energy project brought online strengthens our path toward energy independence, reduces our exposure to imported fuel volatility, and helps secure a cleaner and more resilient power system,” Energy Secretary Sharon Garin said.
"At a time of continuing volatility arising from the developments in the Middle East, fast-tracking our country’s renewable energy capacity is a critical strategic action to protect the Filipino people and the Philippine economy,” she added.
The DOE said it will continue monitoring the remaining projects as it works toward its April 2026 targets.
