LABRADOR, Pangasinan , Philippines — Six people died while several others were injured when a dump truck hit a pick-up truck before falling into a ravine in a mountainous area in this town on Tuesday night.

The fatalities, whose identities were not immediately known, were rushed to the nearest hospital where five of them were declared dead on arrival.

The sixth fatality died while being treated in the same hospital, according to Capt. John Ramos, officer-in-charge of the Labrador police.

The fatalities were reportedly among 25 passengers of the dump truck.

Ramos said probers have yet to determine the exact number of people injured in the accident that occurred in Barangay Bolo at past 6 p.m.

Among those injured was the driver of the dump truck.

Initial investigation showed that both trucks came from a solar farm project and were headed to Sitio Kadampat when they figured in the accident.

Reports said the vehicles were descending a winding road when the dump truck reportedly developed engine trouble, causing the driver to lose control of the wheel.

Probers said the dump truck descended rapidly, causing it to hit the left side of the pick-up before falling into the cliff.

The pick-up, which was carrying 12 people, skidded toward the roadside.

No one among the passengers of the pick-up was injured, reports said.  – Artemio Dumlao
