MANILA, Philippines — Murder charges have been filed against six people implicated in the April 28 murder of businessman Ceferino “Perry” Mariano and his driver.

Filed with the Quezon City prosecutor’s office, the complaints identified the suspects through their aliases as Uno, Boy, Ben, Jacob, Francis and Peter.

Quezon City Police District director Brig. Gen. Randy Glenn Silvio did not disclose their names to avoid jeopardizing manhunt operations.

Two of the suspects and another person were charged for violating the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act.

The motorcycle driver of the gunman was a former Army trooper, Silvio said.

Possible motives include personal grudge stemming from a business-related conflict, he said.

“(Mariano) was involved in a small-town lottery franchise as well as billiards. There were investors,” Silvio said.

Police said the handgun used in killing Mariano was also used in another ambush of a municipal councilor and barangay captain in Pampanga in November 2024.
