TWO-THIRDS of voters in the province of Abra prefer Eustaquio "Takit" Bersamin, brother of Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, to Bangued Vice Mayor Joaquin Bernos as governor in the 2025 elections, according to a survey conducted by market research and public opinion polling company Tangere.

Based on the survey conducted from Jan. 13 to 15, 68 percent of voters in Abra favor Bersamin as their choice for provincial governor in the upcoming 2025 elections. Bernos, on the other hand, trails with just 25-percent voter preference. Meanwhile, 7 percent of respondents remain undecided.

Bersamin's strong voter preference is bolstered by support from larger municipalities such as Bangued, Bucay, Ta-yum and La Paz. His popularity is attributed to his extensive experience and proven track record during his previous tenure as governor.

Notably, Bersamin's appeal spans all age groups, with younger voters highlighting positive recommendations from parents and older relatives as a key influence in their decision.

The survey also revealed an impressive awareness rate for Bersamin at 99 percent coupled with a 92-percent posi-tive approval rating. In comparison, Bernos holds an awareness rate of 85 percent and a positive approval rating of 65 percent.

In the race for vice governor, Eustaquio's niece, Anna Marie Bersamin, emerged as the clear front-runner with a 59-percent voter preference, compared to reelectionist Maria Jocelyn Bernos, mother of Joaquin, who garnered 32 percent. As with the gubernatorial race, undecided voters accounted for 9 percent of respondents.

Anna Marie Bersamin's strong support is also rooted in larger municipalities, mirroring the trend seen in the guber-natorial race. She is the daughter of former Abra representative Luis "Chito" Bersamin Jr., who was gunned down during a wedding ceremony in December 2006.

The survey utilized Tangere's Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing program. Face-to-face interviews were carried out with a randomly selected sample of 800 respondents across Abra. Notably, 25 percent of the respond-ents came from Bangued, the provincial capital and most populous municipality.
