ILOILO CITY — The Police Regional Office Western Visayas (PRO-6) reported that 79 individuals were arrested in Region 6 for violating the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban for the midterm polls.
From Jan. 12 to May 31, PRO-6 said it confiscated 79 assorted firearms and four gun replicas during checkpoint operations and targeted law enforcement efforts as the nationwide gun ban remains in effect until June 11, 2025.
The PRO-6 also reported that the Iloilo Police Provincial Office recorded the highest number of arrests with 33, followed by Capiz with 18, Antique with eight and Iloilo City with seven.
The Regional Mobile Force Battalion-6 (RMFB-6) apprehended five violators and Aklan and Guimaras nabbed four each.
The latest arrest was made on May 31 in Janiuay, Iloilo, where RMFB-6 operatives arrested a suspect identified only as alias Ranny.

The RMFB-6 seized from the suspect a homemade 12-gauge shotgun and two live cartridges.
P4.9-M shabu seized
Meanwhile, police arrested four high-value drug suspects and confiscated an estimated P4.93 million worth of suspected shabu in two major anti-drug operations in Sta. Barbara and Iloilo City.
On the night of May 31, a buy-bust operation in Barangay Lanag, Sta. Barbara, led to the arrest of a 45-year-old resident of Barangay Daga of the same town.
Authorities seized over 525 grams of shabu valued at P3.57 million from the suspect.
The following day, June 1, the Iloilo City Police Office launched another successful operation in Barangay Muelle Loney, City Proper, which led to the arrest of three high-value individuals.
Two of the suspects are residents of the same barangay while the other was from San Enrique, Iloilo.
Authorities seized from their possession around 200 grams of shabu worth P1.36 million.
