MANILA, Philippines — Eight members of the Eastern Police District (EPD) accused of robbing residents during a supposed anti-narcotics operation in Pasig are under investigation, with administrative and criminal charges to be filed against them.

Acting Philippine National Police chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the PNP personnel were placed under restrictive custody as the Internal Affairs Service, in coordination with the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), fast-tracks the probe into the incident.

“I will not allow a handful of bad eggs to drag down the police organization. If proven to have committed this offense, they will not only be dismissed from the service, they will also face jail time,” Nartatez said.

He warned that abusive practices have no place in the PNP.

According to the NCRPO, personnel from the EPD Drug Enforcement Unit allegedly entered a house in Barangay Palatiw on Dec. 26 while looking for a drug suspect.

The residents reported that their personal belongings were taken, prompting them to seek police assistance.

Initial investigation showed that the police officers failed to present official documents to prove the legitimacy of the drug sting.

The eight police officers were also disarmed of their service firearms.
