MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City government has estimated savings of up to P8.5 million per year following the installation of solar panels in eight public schools.
The initiative is part of the city’s climate action program, which aims to transition all city-owned properties into using solar energies.
An initial 25 public schools have been identified to be part of the program.
As of January 2026, 1,393 solar panels have been installed in eight schools in the city.
These include the Camp General Aguinaldo High School, Carlos P. Garcia HS, Commonwealth Elementary School, Manuel A. Roxas HS, North Fairview ES, Novaliches HS, Quirino HS and San Agustin ES.
The installed solar panels have a total capacity of 800 kilowatts of power at peak sunlight, equivalent to the power consumption of 230 households in a year.
The solarization project benefits 28,855 students enrolled in the eight public schools.
“This is in line with the local government’s goal to transition to the use of solar energy in all city-owned properties, including schools and hospitals,” city hall said.
