MANILA, Philippines — 8990 Holdings Development Corp, one of the country’s biggest builders of affordable housing, has expanded its partnership with PLDT Inc. to support the connectivity needs of its projects.
8990 yesterday said it has strengthened its collaboration with PLDT’s data center builder VITRO Inc. to improve its infrastructure backbone for operational continuity.
This means VITRO would provide 8990 with colocation services to house the developer’s data in facilities closest to residential projects.
8990 chief financial officer Roan Torregoza said the developer has started engaging with VITRO since 2019, when the latter hosted the former’s document management systems on VITRO Cebu. Afterward, 8990 decided to expand the partnership to VITRO Makati in 2025.
Torregoza said 8990’s sales offices nationwide are connected to VITRO’s data centers. VITRO, for its part, takes care of 8990’s data, while ensuring its accessibility in times of need.
Throughout the partnership, Torregoza said VITRO has kept 8990’s systems running even during times of disaster, such as Typhoon Odette in 2021 and the earthquakes in 2025.
With this, Torregoza sees 8990’s partnership with VITRO lasting for a long time, as the provider has never failed to keep the developer’s data accessible and intact.
VITRO chief commercial officer Gary Ignacio said the future of the colocation industry lies not just in promising space, but availability as well, to ensure business continuity.
“At VITRO, our commitment goes beyond providing space. We ensure that our clients’ systems remain secure, available and continuously running, even in the face of unforeseen disruptions,” Ignacio said.
VITRO is the country’s largest data center operator, handling 11 facilities, including VITRO Sta. Rosa. Colocation refers to the business of lending out space, power and cooling to enterprises, as these requirements tend to demand intensive capital for some to host their own.
VITRO Sta. Rosa — the country’s largest data center — offers a capacity of 50 megawatts, and it is capable of handling large packets of data, including artificial intelligence.
8990, for its part, is one of the leading developers of affordable housing, known for medium-rise condominiums like Urban Deca Towers.
