BACOLOD CITY , Philippines  – Nine people were killed when a government-owned truck fell from a ravine in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental yesterday morning.

The fatalities, including the driver, were employees of the city government of Bayawan, according to Capt. Stephen Polinar, spokesman for the Negros Oriental police.

Initial reports identified the fatalities as Kervin Andog, truck driver Egmedio Arnaiz, Warren Aseñas, Jovanie Babor, Ronel Cabasag, Jonaryl Caguisa, Diomedes Canoy, Jonathan Hamor and Larry Llamos. They were declared dead on arrival at the Kalumboyan Hospital.

Reports said the workers were on their way to deliver gas and oil to government vehicles in remote areas when they figured in the accident.

The truck was going down a sloping road in Barangay Kalamtukan when the vehicle lost its brakes and rolled off the cliff, Polinar said.
