Pinoy kids as well as their parents are in for a fun and learning show in the “CoComelon Sing-A-Long Live Manila” today, April 27, at the New Frontier Theater. It features the animated series well-loved characters such as JJ, Cece, Nina and Cody, as shown on the show’s poster. Any fan of “CoComelon” is also familiar with Bella, Yoyo, Nico, teacher Ms. Appleberry, Daddy and Mama as other characters, plus the animal characters.

Days prior to its first show, which happened yesterday, The STAR had a virtual one-on-one with the show’s director and co-producer, Josh Blackburn.

“(It) will be a 10 out of 10, for sure,” said he about the level of fun that awaits the audience. “The story is completely interactive and (with) tons of music and dancing and singing along. So, everybody will be up at their seats, dancing and singing, doing the hand motions. The energy would be 10 out of 10 for sure.”

Once the show commences, so does the adventure-themed narrative also. According to Josh, the audience is like spending a day in the class.

“So, each kid gets to choose their favorite location they wanna go to, and they go to the jungle, and they go to space and they go to the beach, and they get to sing their favorite songs in those places,” added he. “We sing the animal dance and then, we see constellations and the stars, we sing the ABCs and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.”

Yes, the kids and their parents get to sing a combination of “CoComelon” tunes, classics and nursery rhymes, and classic children’s songs, such as Wheels on the Bus, the ABCs, the Jello Song, and the Bath Song.

“So, while there is a narrative to get through the show, it is all about the music,” shared Josh. “So, every moment, there is music all throughout. There (are) over 20 songs in the show. We’re constantly singing.”

This paper also asked Josh about the kiddie audience’s love for the animated series, and this is what he shared.

“I think the joy and the curiosity of the kids (the characters) in the show resonate very well with kids all around the world. The way that the kids in the show are learning new skills and learning new things about their world, I think kids can resonate really clearly well.”

“As little kids are learning, you know, every day, something new is presented in their world that they’ve never seen before. (In) “Cocomelon,” they’re learning these things, but they’re also singing fun songs about learning new things,” continued he.

“I mean, when I was a child, it was easy to grasp a new skill (or) learn a new task when there’s a song or a dance that you can do while you’re learning those things.”

In the live show, on the other hand, the parents and kids are encouraged to participate because there’s “lots of call and response from the stage,” said Josh. The kids will be asked for their feedback, their names, favorite colors and favorite things.

“So, very engaging to the entire audience and also teaching people new dances and new songs. So, they can sing and dance along with everybody,” added he.

As one of the producers of the live show, Josh shared that it’s also important for them to take the “CoComelon” characters that “kids have only seen on screen and in animation” and then bring them to life on a live stage “in a way that they can relate to them and they recognize them as the characters that they know and love.”

The people behind the live show also make sure that “the storyline and the songs are engaging,” said he. “We want to make sure that nobody gets bored during the show, and we wanna make sure that we’re engaging the parents and the kids.”

So, the audience will have fun while learning.

After the Manila run, the “CoComelon” live show will go to Indonesia, Hong Kong, India and several other places and conclude its international tour in Kuwait.

The show is presented by Wilbros Live, Round Room Live and Moonbug Entertainment.
