MANILA, Philippines — Aboitiz Power Corp. saw a 71-percent surge in earnings in the first quarter, driven by a boost in electricity sales.

The power arm of the Aboitiz Group reported a net income of P7.9 billion in the first three months, up from the P4.6 billion recorded a year earlier.

Core income likewise ballooned, closing the period with a 61-percent rise to P7.6 billion from P4.7 billion.

The growth was attributed to improved margins in the power generation business, thanks to an increase in contracted capacity and more plants coming online.

AboitizPower has started commercial operations for its new solar assets, including the 221-megawatt-peak Olongapo plant in Zambales, the 47-MWp Armenia facility in Tarlac and the 93-MWp San Manuel plant in Pangasinan.

The company also received a significant boost from its $3.3-billion liquefied natural gas venture with Meralco PowerGen Corp. and San Miguel Global Power.

From January to March, AboitizPower delivered higher energy sales across its core businesses.

For the generation and retail electricity business, power sales sizzled by 30 percent to 11,243 gigawatt-hours from 8,650 GWh.

The distribution segment, meanwhile, grew by six percent year-on-year to 1,707 GWh from 1,606 GWh.

As of end-March, AboitizPower’s total assets stood at P632.2 billion, marking a two-percent rise from the P622.8 billion reported at the end of December 2025.

AboitizPower was the country’s leading power generation company as of July 2025, according to the Energy Regulatory Commission.

The company had dominated the market with a 23.86-percent share, equivalent to a capacity of about 6.77 million kilowatts.
