MANILA, Philippines — The partnership between local networks ABS-CBN and TV5 may be drawing to a close, the former announced.

ABS-CBN released a statement on its social media platform informing the public it received notice that its partnership with TV5 "may end."

"While we are doing everything we can to resolve this within the short time we've been given, we want to be transparent with you about what's happening," ABS-CBN said.

The network noted that since losing its franchise in 2020 during the pandemic, it has had to face challenges, rebuild from the ground up, and operate at a loss, assuring that the real financial constaints never diminished its commitment to viewers.

"We know we have obligations to fill, and we're working hard as we can to honor them. But whatever happens, our service to you will continue," ABS-CBN continued. "We will find ways to reach you, just as we found our way back to you after losing our franchise.

ABS-CBN ended its statement reiterating its mission to be in the service of Filipinos and expressing gratitude for supporters.

Since losing its franchise in May 2020 after the National Telecommunications Commission issued a cease and desist order, ABS-CBN has continued to air its programs through content partnerships and block time agreements.

These include TV5, longtime rival network GMA, and the Villar-owned Advanced Media Broadcasting System, which operates ALLTV on Channels 2 and 16. — with reports from Dominique Nicole Flores
