MANILA, Philippines — The Ayala Group remains the supplier of choice for at least six out of 10 consumers directly sourcing renewable energy, sustaining its market dominance for three straight years.

The group, through ACEN, strengthened its position in the government’s green energy option program (GEOP), with market share rising to 65 percent in 2025 from 64 percent in 2024.

This also represents a sharp increase from 2023’s 48 percent and 2022’s 36 percent, according to Philippine Electricity Market Corp.

Latest PEMC data also show that ACEN accounted for 65 percent of the total GEOP energy consumption in 2025, up from 54 percent in 2024.

“This suggests that its customer base is not only large in number but also meaningful in terms of aggregate energy demand,” PEMC said.

Launched in 2021, GEOP enables electricity end-users with a monthly average consumption of at least 100 kilowatts (kW) to choose their preferred renewable power supplier.

The threshold is set to be reduced to 50 kW after the Department of Energy revised the rules and guidelines governing the GEOP implementation.

Lopez-led First Gen Corp., which previously held the top spot before ACEN took the lead, kept its hold on second place, with market share climbing to 20 percent in 2025 from 17 percent the year before.

Tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan’s Meralco Group has maintained a relatively stable yet modest presence since its entry in 2024, while the Aboitiz Group has experienced a gradual decline over time.

In 2025, Meralco and Aboitiz groups accounted for two percent and one percent of the market, respectively.

“Overall, the trend points to an increasing concentration of GEOP end-users under the Ayala Group,” PEMC said.

ACEN continued to expand its retail electricity supply business in 2025, with contracted capacity reaching 482 megawatts across 753 customers.

New clients included San Beda College Alabang, Avida Towers Asten and Eastwood Excelsior Condominium.
