A wife's instinct — almost always — can never go wrong.

Such is the major self-realization of Ai Ai de las Alas after carefully weighing in on some telling circumstances prior to her falling out with husband Gerald Sibayan.

"It wasn't just a hunch, it was for real," the ace comedienne expressed in the vernacular.

Ai Ai's feeling that Gerald was cheating on her began creeping in right at their home.

She recalls Gerald having mistakenly addressed her as "Bhe" when their term of endearment is "Darl." When casually confronted about his miscalling, Gerald insisted Ai Ai just misheard it.

Still, another incident was when Ai Ai awoke at 7 a.m., only to hear Gerald having a convo with someone believed to be a girl in English.

But when Ai Ai probed into it, Gerald reasoned out that his wife must have heard the sounds from an English film he was watching at that time.

To her mind, however, Ai Ai positively ascertained to have heard Gerald say: "I'll be an American citizen!"

Such domestic instances — Ai Ai later confessed — had jolted her into thinking that Gerald had "a sinister agenda."

Despite such staggering discoveries, life had gone on for Ai Ai as usual. She has since remained focused on her work — shuttling between here and the US in fulfillment of her commitments.

Until the ill-fated day came — her 60th birthday last year when she broke the sad news about their separation on "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda."

So much unlike most female celebs who've slugged it out yet miserably suffered from failed relationships, Ai Ai, in her guesting, deliberately didn't turn the talk show into a melodramatic spectacle.

Ai Ai was oddly in her usual sassy self who managed to pull off some funny one-liners as though her story wasn't a heartbreaking one.

Of course, when confronted by Boy — expect a volley of probing questions aimed at getting to the bottom of the issue.

Boy then inquired if there could possibly be another girl. Ai Ai volunteered a visceral reply: "I have a feeling there is."

This I-have-a-feeling response wasn't proven true until an article in PEP came out this late January.

It was in the said item where Ai Ai — albeit in anonymity — referred to the characters in her story as "cheater" and "Pilipina (sic) mistress."

No need to name them after all, but Ai Ai's description of them and the details of her narrative point to no less than Gerald and his alleged newfound girl.

The info fed to Ai Ai was courtesy of a concerned San Francisco-based Filipino fan.

Cited in particular were two sightings of the cheater and his mistress at Gerry's Grill in SanFo and at a popular Filipino-owned fastfood in Fremont near her residence.

Truth be told, it no longer comes as a surprise if Ai Ai has turned impervious to Gerald's acts of betrayal. In fact, Ai Ai can afford to react with insouciant shrug — even thanking her source for making it easier for her to move on.

Now more than ever, Ai Ai has every compelling reason: "To stick to my decision of living my life without Gerald whatever it takes!"
