MANILA, Philippines — Alternergy Holdings Corp. has started commercial power delivery from its P1.4-billion utility-scale solar facility in Hermosa, Bataan.

With a peak capacity of 28 megawatts, the Balsik Solar Power Plant is expected to generate 45,000 MW-hours of clean power annually and displace about 31,000 metric tons of carbon emissions.

Alternergy president Gerry Magbanua said the project would benefit both industrial and commercial customers in advancing their sustainability initiatives.

“The Balsik Solar Power Plant expands our growing portfolio of solar assets, reinforcing Alternergy’s commitment to sustainable energy,” Magbanua said.

The facility spans 30 hectares and uses 45,600 bifacial solar modules with six inverter stations. It is integrated into the Luzon grid via the Hermosa substation of National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP).

Commercial operations begin following the completion of the project’s testing and commissioning and the NGCP’s issuance of the final certificate of authority to connect.

Balsik Solar is the first of four new Alternergy projects scheduled for completion this year. The other three — the 128-MW Tanay Wind in Rizal, the 64-MW Alabat Wind in Quezon and the 4.6-MW Dupinga run-of-river in Nueva Ecija — are all in advanced stages of construction.

“Alternergy’s core strength is in building power projects from pre-development all the way to the commercial phase. This is most evident as we bring in four projects online and start a steady flow of revenues for the company starting this year,” Magbanua said.

With the Bataan project, the company chaired by former energy secretary Vince Perez now owns and operates 11 solar farms, including ground-mounted, commercial rooftop and hybrid solar projects.

Alternergy is also advancing the construction of three more projects recently secured under the government’s fourth green energy auction round.
