MANILA, Philippines–With all the problems hounding the Alas Pilipinas women’s volleyball team lately, it was understandable that Alyssa Valdez begged off from answering questions regarding the squad.
“I hope you understand,” she kept repeating. “Definitely, once we have all the answers, we will let all of you know.”

But even then, Valdez made one thing very clear.
“I will never get tired of representing the country,” she said.
“And hopefully, hopefully, hopefully, we can help [the team] in our own little ways,” Valdez added.
Arguably the face of women’s volleyball in the Philippines and also a contender for the sport’s GOAT status, Valdez said her last stint with the national team was in the 2023 Southeast Asian Games.
She started training with the national pool and indicated that she was happy with what she has seen so far.
“I’m so happy to be surrounded by young, talented girls. And hopefully, there will be more,” she said. “And I really hope that we can help each other and support these girls. Because … they deserve it.”
