MANILA, Philippines —  Education Secretary Sonny Angara yesterday asked the public to participate in the Brigada Eskwela from June 1 to 5, as the department prepares for the opening of classes on June 8.

“Let’s support our students, teachers and schools as they prepare for the new school year. Through simple help and solidarity, we can demonstrate the true spirit of solidarity and community care,” Angara said.

He stressed that school heads, teachers and other school personnel are strictly prohibited from soliciting or collecting any form of contribution for the Brigada Eskwela, noting that the activities would “focus on voluntary work and participation to ensure that schools are adequately prepared for the upcoming school year.”

Angara said that while literacy remains as the key priority of DepEd, improvement of school facilities is necessary to strengthen both learning and school environments.

DepEd Memorandum 027, issued on May 5, directs all concerned officials to implement the five-day Brigada Eskwela.

Angara added that while literacy remains as the key priority of DepEd, improvement of school facilities is necessary to strengthen both learning and school environments.

Angara said DepEd Central Office would conduct the national Brigada Eskwela kick-off on May 29 in Cabadbaran City in Agusan del Norte.

“The national kick-off serves as a platform to unite key stakeholders, highlight priority initiatives on school infrastructure and literacy, and build nationwide momentum for sustained community participation in school preparation efforts,” he said.

All regions would simultaneously conduct their respective kick-off activities on June 1, he said.
