MANILA, Philippines — The Diocese of Antipolo has designated 25 churches under its jurisdiction as pilgrimage sites, in line with the celebration of the 400th year of devotion to the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage.

Church officials said the jubilee marked the 100th anniversary of the canonical coronation of the image of the Virgin of Antipolo.

“These are not simple anniversaries. These are milestones of faith and reminders of how God has journeyed with us through the guidance of our Mother, the Virgin of Antipolo,” Bishop Ruperto Santos.

He said that for four centuries, pilgrims have been flocking to the Antipolo Cathedral to seek protection healing and hope.

Santos described the devotion to the Virgin of Antipolo as a living story of faith passed through generations.

Meanwhile, Fr. Marc Ramos, head of the diocesan commission on worship and liturgy, said the pilgrimage follows two key moments – embarkation and disembarkation.

“Embarkation is the beginning. It is the moment when a pilgrim chooses to walk both spiritually and physically. Disembarkation refers to the arrival. The pilgrim returns renewed, transformed and sent forth with a mission,” Ramos said.

He said pilgrims pass through designated jubilee doors, which point to Jesus Christ as “the door that leads to the Father.”

The jubilee door of the Antipolo Cathedral was opened on Jan. 14, while the doors of the St. Raphael the Archangel Parish and the Nativity of Our Lady Parish opened on Jan. 10.

The doors of the parishes of St. Faustina Kowalska and Nuestra Señora de los Angeles were opened on Jan. 11.

Jubilee celebration coordinator Fr. Glenn William Relucio said the pilgrimage is a journey of the heart.

The jubilee will conclude on Nov. 28, Relucio said.
