Ask Me Anything: Constitution expert on why pre-trial is important to impeachment process

Why is pre-trial conference important to ensure that the impeachment process will go smoothly? UP law professor John Molo explains in this AMA session.

MANILA, Philippines – After her House of Representatives impeached her for the second time in May, the proceedings on Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment has moved to the pre-trial phase.

The Senate, which serves as the impeachment court, ordered the House prosecution panel and the Vice President’s camp to appear for the pre-trial conference on Thursday, June 18, at 9 am.

In the pre-trial proceedings, the camps will stipulate facts, mark evidence, set the trial dates, and the proposed sequence of the presentation of evidence. According to the House, these details will be discussed to ensure a “fair and expeditious trial.”

To discuss the importance of these pre-trial proceedings to Duterte’s impeachment, Rappler’s justice reporter Jairo Bolledo sits down with constitutional law expert and University of the Philippines College of Law professor John Molo for an Ask Me Anything (AMA) session at 8 pm on Tuesday, June 16.
