MANILA, Philippines — The Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) is appealing to the public to refrain from cyberbullying its student-athletes and managers.
“Public criticism should never descend into harassment, threats, ridicule, or online abuse directed at students or their families,” ADMU said yesterday, as it decried the spread of unverified information as well as personal attacks against those perceived to be responsible for the drowning deaths last June 8 of varsity players Rene Clert Baterbonia and Divine Adili during a team building activity at a beach resort in Aurora.
“As public attention surrounding this incident continues, we ask everyone to remember that many of those names and images circulating online are young students who are now living through an extraordinarily difficult experience,” the school said.
