MANILA, Philippines — A mall security guard received an early Christmas gift from journalist Atom Araullo.
The GMA-7 broadcaster shared how he met the security guard named Anecito Mamores assigned in Quezon City's Trinoma Mall. Atom said that when he strikes conversations with strangers, he is usually asked about his documentaries or his opinion about trending stories.
Mamores, meanwhile, only has one topic he always asks Atom — the security guard has often expressed his wish to own a copy of Atom's "A View from the Ground." The book features the broadcaster's account and photos of his coverages that shed light on poverty, conflict, health and environment in the Philippines.
"Storytime.
With Mamores' express desire to own Atom's book, the broadcaster gifted the security guard a copy of "A View from the Ground" when he came back to the mall.
Atom said that he is inpsired by people like Mamores who drives him to cover their stories. The broadcaster did not also hold back against his critique of rampant corruption in the country.
Gigil lang ng very light)," he said.
"Sana magustuhan ni Anecito ang libro," he added.
More details on how to buy a copy of the book "A View from the Ground" are found in UP Press website.
