MANILA, Philippines — The Ayala Group is further solidifying its position in the cold storage space with the acquisition by logistics arm AC Logistics Holdings Corp. of a majority stake in Glacier Megafridge Inc.
Glacier Megafridge is one of the leading players in the Philippine cold storage industry, operating 12 cold storage facilities with a total capacity of an estimated 75,000 pallet positions.
The acquisition agreement, subject to closing conditions and regulatory approval, builds on the existing partnership between AC Logistics and Glacier Megafridge through GMAC Logitech Refrigeration Corp., a joint venture that operates a cold storage facility in Cagayan de Oro and is currently expanding another facility in Davao.
AC Logistics president and CEO Erry Hardianto said Glacier Megafridge would complement and integrate into AC Logistics’ network of nodes, expanding the company’s coverage to better serve customers and strengthening its ability to deliver comprehensive logistics solutions to critical sectors.
By reinforcing its cold storage capabilities, AC Logistics will be able to deliver customer-focused cold chain solutions that leverage technology, reliability and responsiveness.
“This agreement is a deliberate step in our transformation journey. It’s about keeping our customers in mind and continually evolving to serve them better,” Hardianto said.
The move to acquire Glacier Megafridge is also in line with AC Logistics’ strategy to transform itself into a comprehensive logistics solutions provider, with the cold chain logistics segment among its key verticals.
Once the agreement is finalized, it is expected to provide AC Logistics with a strong platform to develop integrated cold chain services that will address the significant supply-demand gap in the sector.
Further, it will contribute to efforts to reduce spoilage rates of agricultural products, with studies estimating that the spoilage rate in the Philippines is at 40 percent to 50 percent.
Established in 2005, Glacier Megafridge has combined advanced Japanese refrigeration technology with Filipino expertise to ensure the efficient and reliable storage and distribution of perishable goods nationwide.
Through its storage facilities, the company delivers broad coverage and dependable service in key regions that help sustain the country’s food supply chain.
Glacier Megafridge CEO Archie Yan said the collaboration with AC Logistics positions the company to serve customers better and contribute to the country’s food security and economic growth.
“Partnering with AC Logistics opens new opportunities in Glacier Megafridge’s 20-year journey to scale and innovate. Together, we can address the growing demand for reliable cold chain solutions and help reduce inefficiencies in the supply chain,” Yan said.
