MANILA, Philippines — The number of those seeking to vote in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections next year is nearing the 900,000 mark, the Commission on Elections said.
As of Dec. 7, Comelec data showed a total of 877,422 people nationwide having submitted their applications for voter registration.
The Calabarzon posted the highest number with 188,239 applicants, followed by the National Capital Region with 106,770 and Central Luzon with 104,633.
The Cordillera Autonomous Region had the fewest number of applicants with only 11,942. Also with low number of registration applicants are Western Visayas with 24,904 and Mimaropa with 25,682.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia previously expressed optimism that they could exceed the target until the end of voter registration in May 2026.
