COTABATO CITY, Philippines — The health minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao has warned the public not to procure the health supplement Ginkgo Biloba gummies that he appeared to have endorsed in a fake advertising video.
The video, which started circulating early this week on Facebook, features BARMM’s health minister, Kadil Sinolinding, Jr., endorsing the Ginkgo Biloba gummies, which videography experts in the Bangsamoro government immediately dismissed as poorly produced fake footage.
“It has never been my practice to endorse any health products or medicines since I became a licensed physician,” Sinolinding, who is also a concurrent member of the 80-seat Bangsamoro parliament, said on Wednesday, December 10.
Information officers in different Bangsamoro agencies told reporters on Wednesday that the video, taken from a legitimate post on Facebook about an activity of the Ministry of Health-BARMM, was edited, superimposed with a voiceover by a different person, to show Sinolinding endorsing the Ginkgo Biloba gummies, produced by a virtually unknown firm.
Sinolinding and other BARMM officials, including their chief minister, Abdulrauf Macacua, have urged the anti-cybercrime units of the Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation to cooperate in identifying who was behind the production and circulation of the fake product advertisement video.
Managers and reporters of different radio stations and publishers of regional newspapers in the Bangsamoro region and in nearby cities and provinces in Region 12 supporting the pro-poor community programs of the MoH-BARMM are now helping warn the public about the bogus product advertisement.
