DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte was sworn in as the new president of the Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) here on Saturday, replacing his father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, who is detained at the International Criminal Court detention facility in The Hague.

The youngest son of the former president took his oath before Al Cusi, vice chairman of PDP-Laban. Also present during the event were PDP-Laban officials such as Sen. Bong Go, former Department of Budget and Management secretary Wendel Avisado and lawyer Raul Lambino.

The political party is expected to back the candidacy of Vice President Sara Duterte for president in the 2028 national elections.

Meanwhile, Mayor Duterte has also been designated to lead the Reform Alliance for Good Governance and Accountability (RAGE) Coalition, launched yesterday in San Juan.

The coalition, composed of groups such as PDP, Partido Reporma and Reform PH said it is a “united front” meant to “push for accountability, defend democratic processes and address urgent national concerns.”

“We have to communicate with each other as (a) united front moving in positivism and service for the people. Always remember that whatever happens I am always here for you, Mayor Baste Duterte of Davao City,” the new PDP-Laban president said.

The coalition claimed it is supported by “more than 600 parallel groups nationwide, representing a wide network of sectoral organizations, regional alliances, advocacy groups and community-based movements.”

Among those who signed the RAGE manifesto yesterday were Go, former lawmakers Pantaleon Alvarez and Mike Defensor and former executive secretary Vic Rodriguez.
