MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bato dela Rosa continued his prolonged absence from work, even though he was delegated as a representative of the Senate to the bicameral conference committee (bicam) on Saturday, December 13.
Dela Rosa is not the only one missing from the first-ever livestreamed bicam. Also absent in the joint deliberations was Sen. Camille Villar.
While not the sole absentee, Dela Rosa has been a no-show in the Senate since November 11 — more than one month.
The police chief-turned-senator has been absent from the Senate ever since rumors began circulating that the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant for him over his role in the drug war. Dela Rosa was former President Rodrigo Duterte’s police chief at the height of the extrajudicial killings, which saw the deaths of 6,000 to 30,000 people.
While the Department of Interior and Local Government has been mum on whether or not there is already an arrest warrant, the agency said that they are keeping track of the senator and know where he is.
As criticisms of Dela Rosa’s absence pile up, Senate President Tito Sotto has stated that an ethics complaint can be filed against the senator.
