CROWDED waiting areas, worn-down buildings, and poorly ventilated consultation rooms once defined the old La Libertad Primary Care Facility (PCF).

"The paint was peeling, and the space no longer felt conducive to healing," said Eleanor Acabo, branch head of BDO Network Bank Negros Oriental-Guihulngan.

Moved by the facility's condition and inspired by the dedication of health workers, Acabo recommended it for rehabilitation through the BDO Foundation.

The corporate social responsibility arm of BDO Unibank, BDO Foundation, has renovated over 210 rural health units nationwide.

With help from BDO and BDO Network Bank branches, it continues to support underserved communities.

Despite the health center's limitations, its staff remained committed.

"They attended to every patient," said Acabo.

Recognizing its importance as the community's first line of defense for routine checkups, immunizations, and preventive care, she emphasized, "La Libertad deserved more — better."

Through collaboration with the local government and health officers, the facility was fully rehabilitated to serve over 41,000 residents.

Improvements included enhanced interiors and exteriors, a children's play area, and a private breastfeeding room.

"This is more than just a structure," said Acabo. "It shows what we can achieve together."

BDO Foundation remains committed to strengthening health care nationwide, including recent projects in Dauin, Mabinay, and Santa Catalina in Negros Oriental.
