BACOLOD CITY — The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has reminded all sectors to be extra cautious, especially those in areas within Red Zone, or fire prone areas.
Under its Red Zone Program, the BFP identified a total of 284 red zones or fire prone areas in the city as of this March, which happens to be a Fire Prevention Month.
"The Red Zone Program is a shared responsibility of the BFP. The local government unit and the barangay (village) are also involved," said city fire marshal Supt. Jenny Mae Maisip in an interview.
"It involves the community. Fire safety starts at home," added Maisip.
Of the 284 red zones, 54 sub-villages are listed as high risk (more than one fire), 71 are moderate risk (at least one fire), and 158 are low risk (without history of fire).

"Our goal is to minimize damage or lessen the number of affected houses. We also aim for zero injury and death because of destructive fire," explained Maisip.
The agency has called om Bacolodnons to do their share in preventing fire incidents as part of its Red Zone Program.
Last year, 51 of 131 residential fires or 38.93 percent occurred in red zones. In 2023, it was 45 out of 95 or 47.37 percent.
The top three causes of fire last year were electrical ignition, overheated home appliances and unattended cooking.
